Cupcakes and Scrapbooking ... happy Valentine's day

Baking requires measurements ... precise measurements. Hmmm rule following that's just not me no wonder I can't bake worth beans. Gee I thought that handful of baking powder looked like a tablespoon. See you can cook this way with a handful of this and that and a few extra cloves of garlic to scare off the vamps but you can't bake like this. Sadly I am not much of a baker yet I try.

I am sure you are wondering what my baking rant has to do with scrapbooking. Ha I have taken photos of some of my baking creations. Some aren't so pretty ... you be the judge.

(Supplies Used: Cardstock Bazzill, Patterned Paper October Afternoon, Alphas American Crafts, buttons from 7 Gypsies/Jenni Bowlin, Corrugated Shape Jillibean Soup, Making Memories Paint, misc fabric, Die Cut from Glitz, custom stick pin from Midnight Rooster and font Arial Narrow downloaded from the internet)

Remember I mentioned I was a bit behind ... this layout was made from the January Midnight Rooster kit. As you can see I wouldn't be a front runner as a cake decorator at Ace of Cakes. Good thing these tasted better than they looked.

In honor of Valentine's Day I thought I would take another stab at baking. These turned out quite yummy. I did learn something ... do not refrigerate frosting it makes it darn hard to pipe on to your cupcakes. I created the toppers by punching a ton of hearts from scraps of paper then I sewed them down the center in 3's and hot glued them to kitchen skewers. I know they ended up looking more like darts than hearts but hey you can't fault a girl for getting crafty.

Midnight Rooster - February part 2

As promised one more project I made with the Midnight Rooster kit. This is a mini album I made from some white cardstock and one of Jillibean Soup's new file folders. All the other goodies are from the main kit and add on kit from Midnight Rooster.

(Supplies Used; Bazzill Cardstock, Patterned Paper October Afternoon/Basic Grey/Jenni Bowlin/Crate American Crafts, stickers Girls Paperie, Alphas American Crafts, wood buttons, white floss, Brads from My Minds Eye, kraft ticket stubs Maya Road, misc resin flower, custom Midnight Rooster stick pin, fabric, Jillibean Soup twine/file folder, Stampin' Up scallop punch, Martha Stewart tag punch, and font Traveling Typewriter downloaded from the internet)

To make this mini album I used 4 sheets of white cardstock trimmed to 10x8. I simply folded the paper in half and sewed in place along the seam. It was the fastest mini album I ever made. When I make mini albums I often print off more photos than I end up using so I like to include a pocket in the album to hold the extras.

I also received the mini kit so if this isn't enough to stimulate your creativity I made a mini album too. As not to make this post any longer with another 5 or so images I will post the album tomorrow.

With the exception of adding a few scraps of cardstock and a chipboard accent I really stayed true to the kit. Midnight Rooster offers a lot of little handmade goodies in their kits you can't get anywhere else, like the light teal circles on "that's a pretty face..." and the chandelier on "family FOOTPRINTS". The title on "that's a pretty face..." is cut from the fabric from the main kit I will show you more about this later I promise.

Playing Catch Up

Ever since I returned from Los Angeles I have been playing a wicked game of catch up. In the spirit of catching up I have tons of projects I just haven't gotten around to posted here on my blog. I though it's about time to freshen things up.

I never got around to posting my January Midnight Rooster projects so here they are ...

SFJan1

(Supplies Used: Cardstock from Bazzill, Patterned Paper Studio Calico/Crate Paper/October Afternoon, Scallop punch from Stampin Up, American Crafts Thickers, and black alphas from Making Memories)

One thing I like to do each month when I am done with a kit is put all the leftovers I didn't use in a main kit brown bag then when I get the next kit I try to incorporate some of the extra pieces. When I worked with the January kit I found myself reaching for the leftover alphas from the December kit.

Now that I am getting back on track I am back in the gym, posting on my blog and regaining my sainty. I only have 3 more crafting deadlines and one school project to manage this month ... no biggie right.

Happy Crafting :)

A few show favorites

Warning enabler alert! There was some seriously beautiful paper at the show and I wish I could have photographed everything but alas most of these photos were snapped on the fly.

CHA-2011-10

I love the new collaboration between Pink Paislee and Collage Press. It's called Hometown Summer. I really like how Pink Paislee had a little bit for everyone.
 CHA-2011-09

Cause I couldn't get enough of Pink Paislee I had to show you these chalk board stickers ... totally genius. I really like the flowers too they will be a wonderful addition to Corinne's flower clip collection.

CHA-2011-11

Crate Paper never fails to deliver beautiful papers. I especially liked this line called Portrait Collection.

CHA-2011-08

This doggy line from Bella Blvd is top on my list of must haves ... you know I need to scrapbook the newest addition to our family.

I also saw beautiful papers from Webster's Pages and Fancy Pants. They remind me of beautiful wallpaper. Sassafrass Lass had some great alphas in all kinds of colors they would go with anything. And I always like the unique flavor Studio Calico brings to the table.

There is so much more but I am suffering a bit from a CHA hangover and I have projects to be done.

Happy Crafting :)

CHA ... the wrap up

Can you stand any more CHA photos I hope cause I have quite a few more to share. Jillibean Soup is one of several companies co-branding with Unity Stamps

CHA-2011-01

Jen and Jill took time away from the booth to do some make n' takes at the Unity booth.

CHA-2011-02

Guess who couldn't resist sneaking out of the booth to take a few photos. Yup that would be me.

CHA-2011-03

Jen has her "Tim Holtz" moment in the booth when our make n' take had a line that took over the isle. Way to go Jen nobody rocks the make n' takes like you.

CHA-2011-04

I could seriously devote an entire blog post to these Tim Tam cookies all of our Aussie friends brought us at the show. They are so yummy I could lick the photo.

CHA-2011-05

Love this photo of Nikki Sivils and Kimber ... they look so cute and check out Jill in the background signing the back wall of Bella Blvd's booth.

Guess what I have more photos from the show floor of things other than Jillibean Soup. I know you find this totally shocking but I do have a few show favorites besides Jillibean.

Happy Crafting friends :)
