Happy 6th Birthday to Scrapbooking & Cards Today

This week Scrapbooking & Cards Today is celebrating it's 6th birthday. A group of us decided to celebrate with a layout chain. The idea is one designer creates a layout and sends it to the next designer on the list and they create a layout inspired/based off the layout and then the new layout is passed on to the next designer on the list and so on. Our layout tag chain went a little something like this .... Emily Pitts to Vicki Boutin to Kathy Thompson to me to Davinie Fiero to Lynn Ghahary.

I received this layout from Kathy ...

... here is the layout i created inspired by Kathy's layout.

(Supplies Used: Cardstock Bazzill, Patterned Paper Studio Calico, buttons/chipboard accents from My Minds Eye, DieCut Date from Elle's Studio, Tabs from American Crafts, Sticker from My Minds Eye, Chipboard Button from Studio Calico, Corrugated Heart Jillibean Soup. May Arts ribbon, Basic Grey Brad, Silhouette Cutting System/Image, Stampin Up Punch and font Traveling Typewriter downloaded from the internet)

I used Kathy's layout as if it was a sketch: photo flanking the left, layered patterned papers with rounded corners on a cardstock base. In the end I don't think our layouts look anything a like but when you break down my layout the similarities seem so clear.

To follow the chain check out how Davinie was inspired by my layout.

A little crafty non-paper project

A couple of years ago I bought this zebra print ottoman at Target with the intention of recovering it. Two years went by and as shocking as it sounds I have yet to recover my ottoman. Now it's seen better days, it's lost most of it's "cush" and it's gotten dingy. Awhile ago I decided I wanted to recover the ottoman with some kind of printed burlap so I ordered some coffee burlap sacks from the Internet. I purchased burlap from Online Fabric Store but I have also seen it at Etsy.

I am also making some new pillows for my family room incorporating the burlap. I love the texture it adds although my family has complained it's a little scratchy.

100 Fresh & Fun Handmade Cards Giveaway

Good Morning and Happy Friday to everyone!

Let's celebrate the end to this wonderful week with another card book give away. Today's book is from good friend Kimber.

W2288_FreshandFunHandmadeCards

What is fabulous about this book is that it goes beyond your basic folded card. It's full of tons of interactive card ideas and great detailed step outs. I am honored to have been a part of another one my friend Kimber's great books.

I wanted to share one of my cards from the book. I call this one bird in a window. The idea here is one card is a basic card and another card is the same idea but interactive.

Bird-in-a-window-card

If you look closely you can see the card shown above is the basic card. The differences between the 2 are subtle. The card below is the more interactive or advanced card. The window is open and the patterned paper has been mounted to the inside of the card with the idea that it's peeking through the opening.

(Supplies Used: Cardstock Bazzill, Patterned Paper Echo Park, Stampin Up Scallop Punch, EK Punch, Adhesive Rhinestones from Doodblebug, Corrugated Shapes from Jillibean Soup, Making Memories Paint, Stick Pins JoAnn's)

Leave a comment between now and Monday for your chance to win an autographed copy of Kimber's book.

Now as far as my give away from earlier this week I would like to extend that give away to Monday too. So if you want a chance to win a copy of CardMaps 2 leave a comment on my post from Tuesday.

Thanks for stopping by today and happy crafting friends ...

March Spellbinders/PageMaps

So I am slowly ticking things off my list to get caught up on. Today I am checking off my March PageMaps project.

The March PageMaps set from Spellbinders is called Labels and Tags, I think that's kind of funny since I think my favorite die of the set are the ticket stubs.

(Supplies Used: Cardstock from Bazzill, Patterned Paper from Crate Paper/Studio Calico/Lily Bee, Baker's Twine from Jillibean Soup, Alphas from American Crafts, Decorative Brads from My Minds Eye, Rhinestones from Doodlebug, Stamp from Technique Tuesday, White Pigment Ink from ColorBox, Wood House embellishment from Studio Calico, font Bohemian Typewriter downloaded from the Internet, and Labels and Tags Die Set from Spellbinders)

To extend the ticket stub die you have a couple of options I like overlapping the die cuts so there aren't any gaps but you could also line the ticket stubs up to extend the stubs to create a border.

Let's Start Fresh

When I decided to step away from my computer last August it was only intended to be for a week while I was out of town but then life snowballed. While I wasn't blogging that didn't mean I wasn't crafting so I have quite a backlog of projects to share. Today I am going to play catch up with a Spellbinders/PageMaps project I started last month.

So here's the back story ... Becky Fleck is now collaborating with Spellbinders and releasing a monthly die set to coordinate with her sketches. I have always been a sketch girl and I am a fan of dies (especially the metal dies like those made by Spellbinders) so when Becky asked if I would like to play along how could I say no.

This first die set released is called Office Supplies. It's a great set I used 2 of the dies on my layout: the postage stamp and the small notebook paper. I have since played around with the torn paper edge die and let me tell you it's really great look for it to show up on a future layout from me.
