LOVE LOVE LOVE card | Jillibean Soup

Hello crafters happy Thursday. I have a simple stamped Jillibean Soup card to share with you today. The "LOVE" stamp featured on my card can be found on the Heart Healthy Red Bean Soup large clear stamp set. This stamp is one of my favorites. I love the idea of stacking the stamped image with gradient colors and I can visualize myself using this again on a layout.

Unlike yesterday's layout when I finished up this card I decided it needed to be dirtied up so I topped the card off with some mist spatters. I like the effect the mist splatters has on this project. Another design concept I notice myself do a lot lately is color blocking. Color blocking is basically grouping like colors together. In my card I matched the ink to the patterned paper to create a color blocked greeting.

I love you | Jillibean Soup

Hello Wednesday where did you come from. I swear the week is slipping away from me, I think it's the allure of summer vacation sitting on the horizon totally distracting me. Today I have a designer challenge layout from Jillibean Soup to share with you. Our challenge was to use Jillibean Soup Silhouette shapes on our layout. I took some liberties with the challenge and mixed some Jillibean shapes with a circle background design I created myself.

The Jillibean Silhouette shapes I used were the houses, hearts and the title. I created a circle pattern background and sized the shapes to fit then I welded the shapes to the circles. I love the crisp white feeling of the white background. I toyed around with the idea of misting on this layout but decided in the end to keep this one super clean. I really love the white on white look but my houses blended too much into the background so I decided to back the house circles in vellum. The vellum allows the houses to stand out while still keeping the white on white effect I was striving for.

Now Boarding | Jillibean Soup

Happy Wednesday crafters. After yesterday's post I was reminded of how often I use a simple grid formula when I scrap. I looked back at some of my old projects and not only did I find the grid on my layouts but my cards too. I created today's grid layout from a Jillibean Soup Polaroid placemat. Rather than using the whole placemat I cut it down and matted it on a light blue cardstock.  I could do variations of this layout over and over again it's simply one of my personal favorites.

One of the biggest reasons I love the grid design is each square or rectangle acts as a little house for part of my story. I love to put patterned papers, photos and embellishments into little compartments and the Polaroid placemat was perfect for this.

When in doubt scraplift yourself | Technique Tuesday

Hello crafters and happy Tuesday. What do you do when inspiration takes a nose dive and your assignments start to pile up? We all go though periods when our creativity takes a nose dive. One of my simplest tricks to combat the creative blues is scraplifting myself. Scraplifting can come in many forms. It can be topic based, designed based, technique based and even color based. Today's layout is both topic and design based scraplifting. 

My original layout was called Timbers and was featured in the spring issue of Scrapbook and Cards Today. This layout is a basic grid formula which I think is timeless. While I reach for the grid formula often it's not often when 2 of my layouts look so similar. There are slight differences between the 2 projects but they are not huge. Not only did I use the grid formula, I scrapbooked the same topic and intermixed my grid design with patterned papers and stamped elements.

All the photos on this layout were taken with my iphone. I love how taking photos with my phone has brought the spontaneity back to my photos. These photos tell a great story I wouldn't have gotten otherwise but I can't get away with blowing the photos up too big. Add this to the list of using the grid formula to scrapbook this story. It just makes sense when using square Instagram photos you have taken on your phone.

May Colour Suite

Hello crafters and welcome to the May Colour Suite a monthly colour challenge I put together for my friends at Scrapbook and Cards Today. This month's Colour Suite is my representation of spring in colour, a little bit of grey followed by a splash of colour.

  

 

One of my favorite colour combinations is teal and red the colours I selected for this month's challenge are not too far off  from this. I really shopped my stash for all the goodies I used on this layout. I dug out one of my all time favorite Jillibean Soup patterned papers along with some older Pebbles and Heidi Swapp. I also dabbled with a little bit of misting. I am coming to realize misting is much like stamping I like it when I can contain and control it.

This month I invited my friend Michelle Woerner to join me and take the Colour Suite challenge. I was fortunate enough to meet Michelle at CHA W-2013 she is a card maker and it's crazy our paths had never crossed before since she happens to live about 15 minutes from me. I am super excited to have a card maker joining me this month, I am always focusing on layouts and the colour suite is meant to inspire no matter what the project.

Happy Birthday Card | Jillibean Soup

Hello Tuesday I thought I would stop by and post a quick and simple Jillibean Soup card today. This one I did a few months back. I was inspired to create this card from the 6x6 pad and the cute miniature page of bite sized bits. First I want to say yahoo yes Jillibean is once again making 6x6 mini pads of paper. They are one of my favorites for not just cards but layout too. Second I love the bit sized bits so I couldn't resist turning these smaller ones into a card. 

(Supplies Used: Cardstock Bazzill, Patterned Paper Jillibean Soup, 6x6 Paper Pad from Jillibean Soup, Stamp Jillibean Soup, Ink VersaFine Black, Flag Die Paper Smooches, Mini Clothes Pins, and Hemp Twine)

To create this card I cut out 3 of the mini bite sized bit rectangles from the 6x6 paper pad. To offset these from the card base I mounted them on cream cardstock. Then I topped them with clothes pins and twine and adhered them to the card base with foam squares. The #happyday greeting was added after the fact I love how it is just tucked right into place using the clothes pin.
