More confessions of a Mist-a-phobe

Happy Saturday friends since I brought up my fear of misting a couple of days ago I have learned I am not alone. One thing I haven't quite resolved yet is misting on patterned paper so I pretty much stick with misting on plain cardstock. I thought this new placemat from Jillibean Soup would be a perfect vehicle for misting. I confess I am still not sure I like how the misting turned out and I may or may not have ruined a placemat in the making of this layout.

I am still finding my way with mist. I kind of wish I had done more splatters and less spray on this layout but I didn't have a 3rd one of these placemats hiding in my office. I am going to keep experimenting with incorporating mist on my projects. I love playing around making this technique work with my style. Confessions of a Mist-a-phobe

Happy Thursday crafters I have never been much into mist it just doesn't always translate well with my clean and simple style. Let's be honest it's messy and I am not a messy crafter. It's not that I don't like misting it's more that I cannot control it. I think this kind of runs along the same line as my stamping phobia. Both techniques are messy and the idea of doing either directly on a layout is intimidating. But if you look at my last couple of projects you might notice I have decided to play a bit. I admit I often test my misting or just do droplets on scraps of paper to see if the final effect is going to gel with my design.

I created this mini placemat inspired card for Jillibean Soup. I really love the white on white look of this card but I thought it needed something to break up the background just a bit. A little mist was just the right thing this card needed for depth.

I admit I misted the white paper twice because I wasn't happy with the placement of the drops and over spray on my first attempt. I love how the little bit of color allow for flow and movement on the stagnent white paper. I think this why I added mist to yesterday's layout as well. I kind of like how it spices up the look of plain cardstock without overpowering the other elements of the project. Keep your eyes peeled for me to keep playing with mist I am kind of inspired with all the possibilities this technique offers.

Happy 8th Birthday PageMaps

Good morning crafters today I'd like to wish PageMaps and Becky Fleck a happy 8th birthday. I have been a huge sketch fan since I started scrapbooking 16 years ago. Sketches are flexible, customizable and a great starting point for any layout.

This is the sketch I chose to work with this month. It screams "Summer" with those Polaroid frames all lined up in a row. At first glance I stayed true to the sketch but take another look I added another photo, shifted the title to the left, added another row of frames and moved the journaling.

I admit one of the main reasons I chose this sketch this month was I love Polaroid frames but you don't like them as much as me they can easily be taken out of your design.

Happy Birthday | Jillibean Soup

Good morning crafters and happy Monday. I am still riding the wave of the excitement over my new blog. I really hope you love the new look as much as I do. I was always so hesitant of switching away from Typepad because it sounded like a hassle and now I cannot understand why I didn't do it sooner. Because I didn't post much last month I have a lot to catch up on ... so let's start with a layout featuring Jillibean Soup.

This layout shows off my obsession with circles. I cannot escape the circles they are such a great way to showcase embellishments. Circles allow me to escape my linear tendencies. On this layout I was able to pair the straight lines from my photo placement with the movement from the circles. These days this seems to me my happy "design" place.

I thought you might like to see some close ups of this project. I use the circle metal dies to create a pattern and then I work with the negative space by placing the patterned papers behind the openings. Then I added various elements like stickers, die cuts, wooden sprinkles and so on.

Happy National Scraobook Day | Scrapbook and Cards Today

Happy National Scrapbook Day crafters and welcome to my new blog. I am super excited that you made it here today. I was thrilled I could get this up and running just before National Scrapbook Day.

I decided to tackle something that has become near and dear to my heart: stamping. I am what I affectionately like to call myself a reformed stamp-a-phobe. While I use stamps constantly I still find them intimidating and the thought of stamping directly on to a page sends me into a panic.

I found one of the simplest ways to overcome my stamping phobia was to start off simple with white paper and back ink. I stamp on cardstock and then diecut or punch out my image or saying. Take a look at this fun layout featuring stamps from Technique Tuesday.

Happy National Scrapbook Day

Happy National Scrapbook day crafters. I wanted to start today with a small preview of the festivities that are being hosted by Scrapbook and Cards Today. I am not going to tell you which project is mine you will have to join me at 2 PM EST to see what I have in store for you.

Welcome to my new blog!

Greetings crafters after much thought I decided it was time to relocate my blog and with a little help from the fabulous and talented Kristine Davidson I was able to get up and running here at blogger in just a few short days.

All of my content and history has been transferred from Typepad so you will be able to go back and look at my work without having to switch to a different blog. I am still getting used to the blogger platform but it seems pretty user friendly.

Thank you for your patience over the last month. I hope you love my new home as much as I do.
